The food industry is a lucrative business since food is not a luxury but a necessity. Many would love to spend on food and will not mind the cost as long as it tastes good. Since a lot of people really love food, the food industry is always flourishing. As a result, there is a continuous rise of food businesses everywhere.
WOFEX or the World Food Expo is an important food and beverage event for the food industry in Mindanao. It is a 3-day event that transpired last March 13-15, 2018 at the Limketkai Center Atrium. The purpose of this event is to provide supply solutions and help gather F&F professionals and foodies from all over the region. It was powered by Peptarsus, Petron Gasul, Business Week Mindanao, 1A Express Hotel, Mindanao Daily, Magic 89.3, World Food, Seda Centrio, Gold Star Daily, Bombo Radyo and Professional Organizers Unlimited Inc.
In addition, Wofex also aims to provide learning opportunities from industry experts through “Wofex University” where it takes education to a whole new level. The seminars and workshops at Wofex University are as follows; Pastry & Bakery Series, Restaurant/Hospitality Series, Catering Series and Self Development Tracks by Janette Toral (Make Money Online Strategies and Social Media Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations).
In short, this is a gathering of food manufacturers, industry leaders and professionals who can all benefit from the expo’s networking and education.
OPENING CEREMONY
At the Opening Ceremony last March 13, 2018 at the Limketkai Atrium Entrance, this is what transpired. It was hosted by Elton Ladd Batinga.
The ceremony opened with an invocation by Ms. Helen Grace Uy of Professional Organizers Unlimited Inc. and national anthem.
It was then followed by some welcoming remarks from Mr. Joel Pascual (President of PEPTarsus Corp.).
After that, it was followed by a message from the COHARA President, Mr. Eduardo Pelaez.
An inspirational message was then given by Ms. Eliza Pabillore of DTI.
A dance presentation then followed which really entertained the crowd.
It was then time for the ribbon-cutting ceremony which was participated by the following; Gov. Bambi Emano, Mayor Oscar Moreno, Ms. Eliza Pabillore, DIR Alfonso Alamban (Regional Director of DOST X), Ms. Luisa Tumang (President of Food Processors Association of Northern Mindanao), Ms. Marie Elaine Unchuan (Regional Director of DOT Region X), Ms. Linda Boniao (DTI Region X Regional Director) and Ms. Lolita Cabanlet (Board Chairperson and Acting President-Phil export 10-A).
When the ribbon-cutting ceremony was over, a tour exhibit then ensued. The seminars also began on that day.

The event was indeed a success; me and my team were so amazed by the number of exhibitors that participated and the products that they offered. We were so glad that Wofex was held in Cagayan de Oro and hope it happens again soon!
