SM Prime Foundation’s Turnover of the Two-storey Four-classroom School Building to Macasandig Elementary School

Last Friday, November 17, 2017SM Prime Foundation turned over the 2-storey, 4-classroom school building to Macasandig Elementary School.

This is the 85th School Building donated by SM Prime through SM Foundation with 268 classrooms since the “School Building Program” started in 2002 nationwide.

The event was graced by SM Supermalls Executives, Mayor Oscar Moreno, Macasandig Elementary School Staff and was covered by representatives from the media and some well-known bloggers in the city.

CEREMONIAL TURNOVER

The first part of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony done by Mayor Oscar Moreno, SM Supermalls Executives, SM Foundation officials, DEP Ed Schools Division Representative, GPTCA President and the school’s Principal.

After that was the unveiling of the marker and the symbolic turnover of the key to the Macasandig Elementary School. The students received the key.

PROGRAM PROPER

The event started with “Welcome Remarks” from the School Principal “Ms. Rose Marie Dullente”. After that, Mr. Oliver John Tiu (SM Supermalls VP – Mindanao Operations) gave the audience a special message. What followed next was another inspirational message from Ramon Gil Macapagal (Trustee, SM Foundation)

To entertain the crowd, the students showed off their dancing skills in a Special Hawaiian Dance Number.

After that lively number, the DEP Ed Schools Division Superintendent Representative for Ms. Elena Borsillo delivered an Acceptance Message. An inspirational message from the City Mayor Oscar Moreno then followed suit.

Lastly, the GPTCA President Mr. Rodolfo Angcod, Jr. delivered his closing remarks to end the program.

The guests were then treated to a delicious lunch after the program ended.

FACTS ABOUT THE SCHOOL BUILDING

The newest school building to be donated by the SM Prime Foundation is the 4th one in Cagayan de Oro. It is emergency and disaster prepared and aware building with ramp for PWD and elderly, fire alarm with bell and emergency. This school building has 2-storeys and 4 classrooms.

In addition, it is fully-furnished and has 200 armchairs with 20 left-handed armchairs, 4 sets of teachers’ tables and chairs, 16 wall fans, 8 blackboards, 4 wall clocks and 4 toilets.

The armchairs that SM Prime Foundation donates are the works of the foundation’s PWD’s. Through the chairs that they are able to make, their self-esteem is boosted.

Although it is not included in the MOA and Deed of Donation, SM takes care of the school buildings that it donates. Every 5 years, repairs and re-painting is done to maintain the buildings’ good condition. Grade 3 students will occupy the SM school building.

  • 3 dilapidated buildings for demolition
  • 2 makeshift buildings for Kinder and PTA
