DOST’s Regional Celebration of National Science and Technology Week

September 19-21, 2017 marked DOST’s 3-day Regional Celebration of National Science and Technology Week at the Limketkai Atrium. The theme of the event is “Science for the People” and the Master of the Ceremony is Ms. Cheryl G. Lopez.

At the exhibits, one will be amazed with the numerous colorful booths present. Each are carrying their own products and some educational information which can be useful for both students and businessmen.

Here are the highlights of each of the three days of this event.

Day 1 

On this day, the highlights of the event are the following; Parade of Colors (Xavier University PAF ROTC w/ LDCU Drum and Bugle Corps), Welcome Message from DOST-X’s Regional Director Alfonso Alamban, a message from City Mayor Hon. Oscar Moreno, a message from Engr. Elipidio Paras (President of Parasat Cable TV).

Other highlights include; a keynote speech from the Chief Science Research Specialist DOST-X (Engr. Romela Ratila), keynote message from — USEC for Regional Operations DOST-X (Brenda Manzano), MOA Signing, Launching of Project Handa DRRM unit, closing remarks from Narvinso Tan (DOST-X DRRM Coordinator) and finally, the opening of rice and NSTW Exhibits.

Day 2

On the 2nd day of the event, the highlights are as follows; Overview of ONELAB Network Working Snacks and a message from Dr. Franco Teves (S&T Ambassador for Academe).

Here are other highlights on the 2nd day; awarding for the Youth Excellence in Science and Outstanding Scholar Graduates, Quiz Bowl, Science Tricks by Kevin Namoc and the awarding of winners for the competitions.

Day 3

As for the final day of DOST’s National Science and Technology Day, here’s what happened; welcome remarks from Mr. Virgillio Fuentes (Provincial S&T Director, Bukidnon), an inspirational message from Miriam Dela Plaza (Provincial S&T Director of Camiguin), Motivational talk on entrepreneurial success by Carl Balita (Entrepreneur, Author and Educator), Recognition of SETUP A1 Adoptors.

Other important parts of this days event are; inspirational message from DOST Secretary Sec. Fortunato Dela Pena, Awarding of best setup projects, recognition of S&T Ambassadors of Region 10, message from Director of TAPI, Engr. Edgar Garcia, Recognition of RICE judges and participants, recognition of NSTW 2017 Exhibitors and Partners and lastly, a closing message from Dr. Franco Teves (Director for Research, MSU-IIT/S&T Ambassador for Academe.
