The Birth of an Idea
Ever since he was a child, Shine always had a keen eye for fashion. He started to execute his fashion ideas by styling dolls and his classmates in school. He gave them ideas on what to wear and what shoes and accessories to pair them with.
Shine even went as far as creating clothes for them and those individuals who got styling ideas from him won at contests that they joined in. Through this experience, Shine realized that he has a space in the fashion industry.
Career Path
Shine took up International Studies at Xavier University. After graduating, he wanted to take up Law but this didn’t push through. He had a different calling.
He revealed that after he went to church after graduation, he visited his friend “Melvin Lachica” at his shop. Melvin is a fashion designer and inspired Shine to hone his talent by creating fashion sketches. So Shine later on became his apprentice at his shop “Atelier Lachica”, he did errands, beadwork and anything related to clothes there.
Later on, Melvin encouraged Shine to apply as a fashion designer at “Classic Style Looks” and he did exactly just that and stayed there for two years. After his stint there, he went back to Melvin’s shop and then later on became a freelance stylist/designer, he went back to Lachica Atelier again and when he finally stopped working there, Shine decided to put up her own shop. Shine has been a fashion designer and stylist for about 17 years now.
Overcoming Challenges
According to Shine, his journey through his fashion career was no walk in the park. There were plenty of challenges, ups and downs along the way but he said that his family inspired him to continue his path and his strong faith in God served as his guiding light.
Up Close and Personal
When asked what he loves most about designing and styling, Shine said that it was being able to play around with clothes, glamour, being in the limelight, being able to express himself through fashion, having his personality and aesthetic reflected in his works. Shine’s number one accomplishment is his satisfied clients, this makes him really happy. Aside from that, he also felt honored when he styled a candidate for Ms. New Jersey and she won the title wearing Shine’s creations.
We asked Shine what to her are the ingredients or factors that make up a successful fashion designer? To this he replied; passion, battling your own wars, determination, loving your own works, self and never forget your love for God.
When asked what his message to aspiring designers is, this is what he said; “Follow your dreams, give your best shot in your creations and avoid politics.”
About Dress Shop by Shine Casino and Grand Opening
Dress Shop by Shine Casino held its Grand Opening last November 8, 2017 but had their soft opening sometime in September which is why it’s 2 months old now.
Here are some snaps from the Grand Opening which was attended by plenty of VIP guests, some clients and close family and friends of Shine and Pitimini.
It is co-owned by Shine Casino, make-up and hair stylist “Pitimini Salazar” and one of their friends, Mamitos. The shop was put up through Pitmini’s initiative, since he and Shine used to dream about putting up a shop and now it has turned into a reality.
Shine takes care of the styling and designing while Pitimini focuses on the marketing side. They have hired sewers for the production. The shop is open from 9am – 7 or 8pm from Mondays to Saturdays. They’re open on Sundays if there are client appointments set ahead of time.
