Finally, the night everybody’s been waiting for this Fiesta month has come. The coronation night of Miss Cagayan de Oro 2017 took place last August 26, 2017 at the Limketkai Center Atrium.
The event was a star-studded one as it was flocked with several VIP’s, well-known personalities and local celebrities.
The pageant’s panel of judges even had guests from Manila such as; Fanny Serrano, James Cooper, Marina Benipayo and Shamcey Supsup-Lee.
In addition, the coronation night was covered by known media representatives and bloggers in the city.
Program Proper
Ms. Mags Cue (Chairman of the Miss Cdo Pageant) kicked off the event by delivering an opening speech to the attendees. After that, the panels of judges were all called up stage for recognition and introduction.
The next part of the program was a mind-blowing opening dance number with the performers all sporting platinum blonde hair and gold bodies.
The outgoing Miss Cagayan de Oro 2016 Sherlyn Doloriel came out then waved to the crowd.
It was then time for the lovely candidates to come out wearing Victoria’s Secret Angels-like costumes with the entire swimsuit and wings combo which caused the audience to cheer loudly for their bets!
Right after this dance number, the hosts went out on stage and one of them was Nicole Abas-Datayan. A few moments later, the corporate awards were announced which drew a lot of cheers and screams from the crowd.
What followed next was the ladies did a fashion show wearing Mags clothing. Then when it was over, it was time to reveal the winners of the minor awards. Ms. Katrina Acaylar got 16 awards.
An intermission took place with video slideshows played on the screen of the candidates’ journey throughout the pageant. It showed the sponsors visits and other significant moments that helped the candidates bond with one another.

Now it was time to test the wits of the candidates. They were all made to answer questions from the judges and this portion of the pageant revealed which ones had both beauty and brains.
The stunning candidates wore clothes from the Ororama Collection.
Final Parts of the Program
The candidates walked the runway once more and showcased their Long Gowns which are the creations of the OFDG, Oro Fashion Designers Guild of Cagayan de Oro. This is my favorite part of the show.
The production was really impressive since the atrium resembled a scene outdoors which was like the crowd was underneath a blanket of stars. It was really astonishing and a sight to behold.
Not long after that, the top 5 candidates were picked and they underwent a final Question and Answer portion.
The winners of the pageant were then announced and they came in this order: 4th Runner Up (Ms. Brgy Balulang Marianne Serenuela), 3rd Runner Up (Ms. Brgy Gusa Alexa Patriana), 2nd Runner Up (Ms. Brgy Balulang Jaymee Padilla), 1st Runner Up (Ms. Iponan Meg Bacareza) and Grand Winner (Ms. Brgy Balulang Katrina Laurice Zayas Acaylar).
