Last week, Capitol University Medical Center (CUMC) just launched their new and improved heart station – LSR Heart Institute. The launching started with a mass and blessing from a priest, the guests were then toured inside the facility including the owners and media who were present at the event.

Light snacks and desserts were served to the guests. The media and bloggers present were able to interview two doctors at this event; Dr. Roy M. Sasil Jr. (Non-invasive Cardiologist) and Dr. Renato Alagadan (Director of Laureana San Pedro Rosales Heart Institute).

The first doctor we interviewed was Dr. Roy M. Sasil Jr. He discussed with us what Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) is and its purpose.

According to him, the one they have at CUMC is very advanced equipment since it’s in 4D and is from a good brand, Phillips from Germany. Although TEE is also available in other hospitals, only two hospitals in Cagayan de Oro have it in 4D and this includes Capitol University Medical Center. Dr. Sasil also revealed that the LSR Heart Station operates 8 hours per day, usually, 8 am – 5 pm only.

He also mentioned that the main purpose of the TEE is to guide surgeons and cardiologists, help them do special procedures, help those with congenital heart diseases needing repair and is a very specific and advanced form of ultrasound for heart patients.

After discussing these things, Dr. Sasil went on to perform a demonstration with one of the media persons using the portable ultrasound which can be operated using the device attached to his tablet and a downloaded application on the gadget.

It could diagnose if someone had a heart problem which was really interesting and amazing.

After talking to Dr. Sasil, the media and bloggers were able to meet and interview Dr. Renato Alagadan who is the Director of the Laureana San Pedro Rosales Heart Institute.

According to him, LSR is an umbrella within the CUMC facility and its main purpose is to promote cardiovascular care. Under the institute is the Heart Station, a gateway where people that come in are those who complain about heart problems or heart disease, this is where they get diagnosed.

Dr. Alagadan shared with us the various services and types of equipment present in this brand new and advanced heart station. He also reiterated that the Heart Station is where they screen the patients and direct them where they need to go after getting diagnosed. In addition, he also revealed that the heart station was created early 2000’s wherein there were only 2 cubicles at first and later on expanded due to the increasing demand due to the growth in the number of heart patients. Since the hospital needed to accommodate more, so they needed to expand and continue adding more equipment and services in this department.

It is important to note that before heart patients can go to the LSR Heart Institute (heart station), they first need to go thru the Emergency Room and get a recommendation from their attending doctor. This specialized unit looks deeper into cardiac disease and aims to provide advanced cardiovascular care to Cagayan de Oro heart patients.

Because of this new and improved heart station, Cdo patients no longer need to go to Cebu or Manila just to get the proper diagnosis for their heart ailments.

After the discussion, Dr. Alagadan made us try the different services and equipment inside the heart station and shared with us the purpose or importance of each one to help us get acquainted with what they have to offer.

When it was done, we had our photo taken together with the Doctors and Heart Station staff, and with CUMC’s Marketing Team.
