If you are a food lover and live in Cagayan de Oro, it’s hard to miss The Hungry Plate restaurant in the food scene. The resto rose to fame when they started their Eat-All-You-Can Buffet for only P199 per person.

It became a craze for Kagay-anons because they had one of the longest spreads of affordable lunch and dinner buffets in the city. The best part, they gave good value for money because they offered really delicious food and each food item, really tasted good.

There are two branches of The Hungry Plate restaurant chain, the first that opened in 2016 is the Corrales branch and a few years later came the SM CDO Downtown Premier branch.

How it All Began

The Hungry Plate is owned by the Cabardo family hails from Davao City and migrated to Cagayan de Oro in the 1980’s. The family has always been in the hospitality and food industry.

Each member of the Cabardo family has good taste in food since they were very well exposed to it. They loved to dine out, try different dishes from various restaurants both here and abroad. Because of this, they thought about opening their own restaurant business in Cagayan de Oro. Aside from that, Chef Kahlil Cabardo, one of the owners, acquired some culinary skills from his training in Miami, USA. He and his family also wanted to bring in authentic non-Filipino food here at affordable prices.

So where did “The Hungry Plate” name come from? According to Kahlil; “It came out after a few drinking sessions with my family.” Since Chef Kahlil loved Tex-Mex (Texan-Mexican), American and Pinoy dishes, they were all combined as the flagship dishes of their soon-to-be restaurant.

Best Selling Dishes

Here’s a closer look at the Best Sellers of The Hungry Plate. Take your pick, each one tastes as good as it looks!

Why are the Prices of their Food a Bit Higher Than Others

The reason for this according to Chef Kahlil is that most of their ingredients are imported since they are serving some foreign cuisine and not all Filipino cuisine.

They wanted to stay true when it comes to the authenticity of the dishes hence the price range is somewhat higher than the usual some would expect.
